SUMMARY:Medical Cannabis Training for Utah Physicians
DESCRIPTION:The use of medical cannabis for certain medical conditions is now legal in Utah.\nYou’ve probably heard plenty of rumors about what that means for you as a family physician. This course will separate fact from fiction when it comes to the law passed by the state legislature, how physicians can become Qualified Medical Providers*, which conditions can legally be treated with medical cannabis in Utah, and clinical information about how to utilize cannabis as part of the treatment plan for your patients with qualifying health conditions.\nDinner will be provided.\nThe following are eligible to become QMPs: Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), Medical Doctors (MD), Nurse Practitioners (NP) and Physician Assistants (PA). He received his M.D. from Stanford and trained in internal medicine at Columbia University, neurology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and endocrinology at the N.I.H.\nCourse Objectives:\nReview the endocannabinoid system: physiology, pathology, and pharmacology.\nDiscuss the principles of medical cannabis prescribing: indications, dosing, toxicity, and monitoring.\nProvide guidance on regulatory compliance with Utah Medical Cannabis Act.\nUnderstand use of medical cannabis in clinical practice.\nOverview the ethnobotany, ethnopharmacology, and pharmacognosy of Cannabis.\n*This Live activity, Medical Cannabis Training for Utah Physicians, with a beginning date of 08/21/2019, has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 2 .00 Prescribed credit(s) by the American Academy of Family Physicians.
