When Death do Us Part: Death Certificate Training for Family Physicians

Join UAFP, Dr. Deirdre Amaro, Chief Medical Examiner from the Utah Office of the Medical Examiner, and Nikki Clark, MD, faculty from Utah Valley FM Residency for an overview of the function of the OME, which deaths fall under the purview of the OME, and which fall under the purview of the patient’s physician. Drs. Amaro and Clark will also provide real world examples of completing a death certificate, from more straightforward cases to more complex situations.
This presentation will help clarify the process of completing a death certificate for your patients and how the OME and family physicians can work together to serve the community.
Those interested can also join in a tour of the morgue which will provide attendees a much clearer picture of the OME’s roll in what Dr. Amaro refers to as the “final act of care” you can provide your patients as their physician.

WHERE: Training and dinner will be held at the Utah Public Health Laboratory at 4431 S 2700 W, Taylorsville, UT 84129. Those interested will be able to tour the morgue at the Office of the Medical Examiner located next door at 4451 2700 W, Taylorsville, UT 84129.
