Lodging and Transportation

Lodging

CME & Ski will be held at the Sheraton Park City (a Marriot Bonvoy Property).

We have a limited number of rooms available (double queens rooms) for $349 per night (not including taxes and resort fees). A credit card will be required to hold your reservation. You will also be required to provide a credit card at check-in at the hotel for your room.

Due to the high demand for lodging during ski season, we are only able to reserve up to two rooms per CME & Ski registrant.

To receive the discounted rate, hotel Reservations must be made before Friday, January 6th. At that time, any remaining rooms in our room block will be released back into the hotel inventory and room reservations will be subject to availability.

For our last CME & Ski held in February 2022 our rooms sold out in December, so we recommend you make your reservation as soon as possible.

A link to make your reservation will be provided to you with your CME & Ski confirmation email.

Other Lodging Options – The Early Doctor Gets the Room Reservations

With the popularity of Park City growing, we cannot emphasize enough how important it is to book your lodging early to make sure you get the accommodations you want at a reasonable price.

Aside from staying at the event venue, Sheraton Park City, there are several other hotels in Park City ranging in quality and price. While there are some properties that are not booking out as far as February 2023 yet, many have reservations available now.

Many condo and home rentals are available during ski season in Park City through sites like Vrbo and Airbnb. If you book during the summer, you can find places with rates as low as $150 per night.

While not as popular of an option, we have had some guests rent a car and stay at hotels in Salt Lake City close to the mouth of Parley’s Canyon near I-80. Some of the hotels in that area are about a 30-minute drive from the Sheraton Park City. A few options are Home2 Suites by Hilton Salt Lake City-East, Hampton Inn & Suites Salt Lake City/University-Foothill Dr., and SpringHill Suites by Marriot Salt Lake City Sugar House.

If you’ve never visited Salt Lake/Park City before and have questions, don’t hesitate to call us at 801-736-0722 option 2. We’re happy to talk through your options!

Transportation

The Sheraton Park City is located 40 minutes from the Salt Lake City International Airport, five minutes from Park City Mountain Resort and 10 minutes from Deer Valley

Transportation to and from the Ski Resorts

UAFP will be providing free shuttles from the Sheraton to both Park City Mountain Resort and Deer Valley on Friday and Saturday between 9:00am and 2:30pm. The Sheraton Park City also provides a free shuttle throughout the day for its guests to both resorts.

If you need transportation around town, we recommend utilizing cab companies, ride-sharing services, or the Park City transit system.

Transportation to and from Salt Lake City International Airport

In addition to local cab companies and ride sharing companies such as Lyft and Uber, there are several shuttle services that run from the SLC International Airport to Park City.

Discounted Transportation from Canyons Transportation

Canyons Transportation, who will be providing shuttle service to the ski resorts for our guests, is also offering a 10% discount for shuttle service to and from the SLC International Airport by using the code – UTAHAFP

Save Money on Lift Tickets – BUY EARLY!

The “secret” is out, and the rest of the world has discovered how fantastic Park City is! That means to get the best deals on lift tickets, you need to plan early and buy early.

Park City Mountain Resort (Epic) – Epic season passes are on sale now and you can purchase either a full pass or a multi-day pass. The cost per person per day is much lower with one of these options. Prices will start to go up starting in September, so consider purchasing passes this summer. https://www.epicpass.com/

Dear Valley Resort (Ikon) – Deer Valley limits the number of skiers on the mountain each day. So once they have reached capacity for a certain day, they stop selling tickets for that day. While you can purchase full price day passes, if you plan on skiing at least five times between the resorts that accept Ikon passes, you’ll want to consider purchasing a season pass. Please note: Deer Valley is no longer included on the Base Pass, you must purchase the Base Plus Pass or Full Ikon Pass. https://www.ikonpass.com/en/shop-passes

Deer Valley will not start selling individual day passes until later in the summer or early fall. If you want to be notified when those passes go on sale, you can subscribe their “E-News” here https://www.deervalley.com/email/email-signup. For more information, you can call their lift ticket office at 435-646-6626.

UAFP is unable to offer discount lift passes this year.

Some Advice About Staying Healthy at Higher Elevation

Park City, Utah is located at about 7000 ft. While very rare, we have had some guests at our conference who have experienced some physical discomfort when they arrive in Park City if they are coming from a much lower elevation.

Between the two major resorts in Park City, Deer Valley has some spots as high as 8,300 ft., so you may want to keep this in mind when choosing which resort to ski at.

If you do experience some altitude sickness, the symptoms will generally be mild: dizziness, fatigue, shortness of breath, lack of energy, and sleep problems. Symptoms generally commence between 12 and 24 hours of arrival, and people start to acclimate within a day or two.

The best thing you can do is to give your body time to adjust if you haven’t spent much time at this elevation in the past. Don’t exert yourself within 24 hours of arriving if you are coming from sea level. Don’t drink too much alcohol, particularly in the first day or two of your stay. And stay hydrated. Even if you don’t feel particularly thirsty, chances are that you need to drink more than you feel like while you are in Utah.

Also, keep in mind if you happen to be here on one of our fantastic bluebird ski days, you’re going to want to wear high-quality sunscreen on your face. Raccoon eyes are real in Utah!

Things to Do In Park City (other than skiing)

PARK CITY ACTIVITY GUIDE

While Park City is most often thought of as a ski destination, its off-slope activities are plentiful. For when you want to give your ski legs a break, or just try something new, consider the following:

STROLL HISTORIC MAIN STREET

Park City’s Historic District, immediately surrounding beautiful Historic Main Street, offers a wide variety of entertainment and activities.

From shopping at one-of-a-kind boutiques to browsing the many art galleries, and brushing up on both your mining and ski history at the Park City Museum – you’ll get a real feel for the heart of Park City.  Grab lunch at one of the award-winning restaurants along Historic Main Street.

TUBING AT SOLDIER HOLLOW NORDIC CENTER

Soldier Hollow Nordic Center has upgraded its lift to a conveyor lift system – meaning faster lifts and shorter lines.  Soldier Hollow boasts the longest tubing lanes in Utah. With 1,200-foot sliding lanes and the new lift, tubing is the perfect way to take advantage of Utah’s beautiful winters. Tubing is available in 2-hour sessions.

FAMILY SLEIGH RIDE

If you’re looking for a nice way to unwind at the end of the day, a family sleigh ride is the perfect activity. Bundle up together under blankets as you’re pulled through the snow behind a team of horses, and you’ll quickly feel like you’ve been transported to another time. With several different sleigh rides available in Park City, you can be whisked away to a fine dining yurt, or perhaps just enjoy a short ride with everyone before dinner.

ICE SKATING AT PARK CITY MOUNTAIN

There are few experiences as unique to a winter getaway as ice skating is. Luckily, Park City Mountain Resort has an outdoor skating rink right at their base area, so it’s an experience that you can easily fit into any winter itinerary. The rink is small, but it’s perfectly set up for families. There are complimentary skate trainers for a balance that allowed even our toddler to skate, yet it was still big enough that my pre-teens could race around. There are also several benches near the outside of the rink, so if you’ve got someone in your group who prefers not to skate, they can relax right there and still be where the action is.

THE PAINT MIXER

A guided painting opportunity that requires no previous painting experience, The Paint Mixer, located on lower Historic Main Street, is entertaining, fun, and the perfect introduction to art.  The Paint Mixer offers a social setting and includes on-site wine service, or, try a class geared specifically towards kids for a fun, family-friendly experience.  The best part? You can take your masterpiece home with you!

FITNESS, WELLNESS, AND RELAXATION

For those who want a break from the slopes, but want to keep active, Park City offers a variety of fitness centers with drop-in options.  Swimming, tennis, spin classes, or time spent with a personal trainer are all great ways to exercise inside.  Follow these up with time in a steam shower, or, if you’re in need of deep relaxation, treat yourself to a day at the spa.

DOG SLEDDING

A perfect way to rest your legs, dog sledding offers unique views and access to more remote areas with stunning views, peace, and quiet in the areas surrounding Park City.  Dog sledding is great for families to enjoy together, or for those looking for an escape, a romantic activity for two!

THE ESCAPE ROOM

Park City Escape Room: If you haven’t tried an escape room yet, this is a fantastic one to try (and if you’ve been to one, you know how fun they are). A mix of puzzle, mystery, and adventure, the escape rooms will have your family working together against the clock on fun challenges to see if you can escape before time runs out. There are even rooms that are open to all ages, so it really is a great experience for the entire family.

KIMBALL ART CENTER

Not only is Kimball Art Center’s main gallery (with rotating special exhibits) open daily and free of charge, they also offer numerous opportunities for classes and studio time.  Head to Kimball Art Center’s website for a complete list of classes, private group class offerings, and more.

SNOW BIKING

Utilize a different set of muscles while riding a fat-tire bike throughout Park City’s trail system.  These bike’s over-sized tires allow you to glide atop the snow-covered trails with ease and give riders access to terrain not otherwise accessible by bike during winter months.  Many of the area’s outdoor outfitters offer bike rentals, and some even offer tours.

SNOWMOBILING

Have the need for speed? A perfect way to experience nature in smaller groups, snowmobiling offers a unique opportunity to meander through aspen meadows and pick up a bit of speed through wide open space – it’s a fun way to spend the day as a family or with a group of friends.

UTAH OLYMPIC PARK

Brush up on your Olympic history with a guided tour of Utah Olympic Park, or a walk through the Alf Engen Ski Museum and Eccles 2002 Olympic Winter Games Museum.  Cap off your day at the Park with a thrilling ride on the Comet Bobsled.  Other winter activities and hours vary – check out full offerings on Utah Olympic Park’s website.

In addition to Park City's many activities, there are also a ton of great, family-friendly events to enjoy.  Visit the Visit Park City website to explore the full events calendar.

CME & Ski FAQ

CME & Ski FAQ

How come you no longer hold CME & Ski at a slope-side (ski-in/ski-out) resort?

This is definitely the number one question we have been asked, and the answer is simple: the costs have exploded! The last time we held CME & Ski prior to COVID was February 2020. Our room rates were around $400 per night for our guests. But a combination of people wanting to vacation where they could socially distance and get outside (i.e., skiing), heavy marketing by Park City to other states like New York and Texas, and inflation – the costs have gone up astronomically in just two years. We sent out for bids from three slope-side resorts in Park City, including the resort we have used in the past, and the costs for rooms per night start at $600 (not including taxes and resort fees). When we surveyed our attendees last year regarding the price they would be willing to pay for a hotel room at a slope-side resort, over 75% answered no more than $400. So, in an effort to continue to host this event and to keep our costs as low as possible for family physicians, we have to host CME & Ski at a hotel in town.

We are doing everything we can to get you from the hotel to the lift as quickly as possible, including offering a longer ski break this year and providing private shuttles to both Park City Resort and Deer Valley Resort. Those who attended last year said the shuttles worked great and took less than 10 minutes to get from the hotel to the line for the lift!

What else is there to do in Park City aside from skiing?

We’re glad you asked! We have an extensive list of other family-friendly activities (both indoors and out) on this page on the tab "Things to do in Park City (other than skiing).

I want to eat out while I'm there, do you have any suggestions?

Park City is definitely a "foodie" town! Whether you just want cheap pizza or a a Four Star dining experience, Park City has you covered! Check out the Park City Area Restaurant Association for a listing of area restaurants.

P.S. during ski season, you will want reservations at most restaurants in town.

How can I get discount lift tickets?

We have all kinds of info about lift tickets under the tab “Ski Information and Elevation Info”

What kind of weather should I prepare for?

In short – prepare for it to be cold, sometimes very cold. Weather in Utah’s mountains in February is unpredictable, and some days can be 35° and sunny and some days it doesn’t get much above 0°. If you’re coming from Wisconsin, you’ll probably be fine. If you are coming from Texas, it’s going to feel very cold. One thing we do not have (unless it’s snowing) is humidity.
