Member of the Week: Dr. Saphu Pradhan

In an effort to highlight our amazing family medicine physicians in Utah, UAFP is highlighting a different member each week. We hope that this can help our members get to know each other better and facilitate networking and support opportunities. To kick off this new feature, we wanted to introduce you to our President-Elect, Dr. Saphu Pradhan!

Practice: Intermountain Healthcare Cottonwood Family Medicine Clinic in Murray
Residency: University of New Mexico Albuquerque

A bit about Dr. Pradhan: I was born in Nepal, immigrated to Montana at age eight, and then my family moved to Salt Lake City at age 14. I attended the University of Utah for a B.S. in chemistry with a minor in psychology and then went onto medical school. I’m the oldest of four girls, and purportedly the bossiest, although my name means wisdom so I like to think I’m just imparting knowledge. One of my sisters is doing her family medicine residency in Seattle. I’ve never been athletic, but I love the outdoors. I try to go white water rafting and backpacking with my husband, Newfie, and friends every chance I get. We try to travel internationally once a year. I’ve always been afraid of heights, so I learned to ski in my 30s and now I look forward to snow. I was scared of open water so I learned to scuba dive a few years ago and have seen some incredible creatures; octopus are my favorite. I also enjoy cooking and miss hosting pre-Covid dinner parties. I am told my crab cakes are no joke.

What keeps you passionate about family medicine? The relationships I’ve developed with my patients, preserving their quality of life through preventative care, serving as a comforting home base as they navigate the healthcare system, recruiting resources to help meet their needs, watching babies grow up and adolescents develop self awareness, constantly being challenged and learning new things. Even on my worst days, I know family medicine is where I belong.

What will we find you doing on your day off? Hopefully, I’ll be enjoying nature with friends.
