Member of the Week: Dr. David Cope
Practice: I’ve been in private practice since leaving residency. It has been an amazing and gratifying experience. Six years ago, we (Cope Family Medicine) joined Ogden Clinic. Me and my partners, Dr. Mark Christian, Dr. Bryce Peterson, Dr. Doug Kasteler, and Dr. Raymond Ward are share owners in Ogden Clinic with this “merger/assimilation”. We practice in Bountiful with several talented and hard-working APPs and supported by wonderful staff. It has been a wonderful move and journey.
Residency: University of Utah Affiliated Hospitals
Additional training or fellowships: 2017 – Vaccine Science Fellowship, through the AAFP
A bit about Dr. Cope: Although I was born in Chicago when my parents were in school, we moved to Las Vegas, Nevada when I was five. I grew up there. My extended family is from Ogden and just after I turned 17, I left home to go to college at Weber State. I received my B.A. in Chemistry prior to returning to University of Nevada School of Medicine. I love to spend time with my children and my grandchildren. I hike and backpack whenever I have a spare moment. I’m writing this from Philmont Scout Ranch, in New Mexico, where I frequently work as a volunteer Physician for the 25,000 Scouts and Scouters that attend every summer.
What keeps you passionate about family medicine? Just as each of you, I could easily make of list of the frustrations and hurdles in life. But anytime I think of that, I quickly am reminded of the wonderful patients and the absolutely unique opportunities I’ve had to be a part of the lives of these wonderful people. We are blessed. We are fortunate. Our patients love, revere, and respect us. They trust us.
What do you wish you’d known when graduating from med school? When I graduated from Medical School, I wish I’d realized how fast the time would go. I’ve always sought to live for the moment and not to let time go by. But, reflecting on my career, it is amazing how it moves along.
Where will we find you on your day off? Spending time with my wife and kids.
What are you…
