Make Your Voice Heard: Participate in Utah’s Caucus System
Physicians play an important role in shaping policies that affect patient care and the health of our communities. One way to make your voice heard is by participating in Utah’s caucus and convention system, a grassroots process used by political parties to select candidates and help shape party platforms.
By attending your neighborhood caucus meeting, you can engage in the democratic process, advocate for issues important to physicians and patients, and connect with others who are involved in public service.
There are several ways to participate. You may attend a caucus meeting, volunteer with your party, or seek election as a precinct officer or delegate. Many caucus meetings are held in March each year. To find details about participating within your preferred political party, visit the links below (listed in alphabetic order):
- Constitution Party of Utah
- Green Party of Utah
- Libertarian Party of Utah
- Independent American Party of Utah
- Utah Democratic Party
- Utah Forward Party
- Utah Republican Party
You may also visit your county party website or contact county party leadership for additional information.
Physicians, medical students, and their families are encouraged to take part in this process. Participating in caucus meetings can be a meaningful way to meet candidates, discuss policy issues, and build relationships that extend beyond election season.
Getting involved in the candidate selection process helps ensure that the physician perspective is represented in conversations about health policy and the future of healthcare in Utah.
