Member of the Month – March: Karly Pippitt

Practice: I work primarily at the Sugar House Health Center, where I have practiced since my residency. I have one patient that I’ve seen since my intern year! I also see patients in the Neurology Headache clinic. I’ve been involved in undergraduate medical education since I began as faculty, and enjoy mentoring medical students, especially those planning on Family Medicine.

Residency: University of Utah

A bit about Dr. Pippitt:
I grew up in Twin Falls, Idaho, and attended the College of Idaho for my undergraduate degree where I met my husband, Rich. We attended the University of Utah for medical school, residency, and then never left! I enjoy spending time with family, friends, my dogs, baking, reading, knitting, and traveling.

What do you wish you’d known when you graduated from medical school? Medicine is a team sport – cultivate those relationships to your colleagues throughout your training to help support each other in patient care and life. I always tell students it does get better! It’s hard to see that when you’re in the thick of training. Additionally, a friend and colleague always says when you’re finishing your vacation, you need to be planning your next one. I couldn’t agree more.

What keeps you passionate about family medicine? The relationships I’ve built with my patients, and the challenges and successes I’ve helped them through. My patients are amazing, and going to work feels like getting to see many of my friends. Students and trainees also keep me passionate and interested in the human body and curious to learn more. I also love connecting people – be it patients with the right specialist or a student to one of my partners or two colleagues who should be friends.

Where will we find you on your day off? Walking my dogs, being with my family, reading a book, spending time with friends.

What are you…
